Additions to Queues are failing

I have just been doing some testing with a new version of the 'app'... and ... not good!  Any additions to Instant Queues are intermittently failing... in other words .. they don't get added.  The reason why they don't get added is that - the request to add being sent to Netflix is being returned as a "Bad Request".  It really isn't a bad request, they are just not in the mood.  Wait a minute and see if their mood changes.

To Do list.... Make it clear to the user when a request fails.

Netflix DVD Queue not returning anything!

Yesterday, June 7, The DVD contents is not being returned from Netflix.  The Instant Queue is fine.  I don't know what is going on with them yet.  Unfortunately they have very little interaction with the masses, developers or otherwise.  I will try to figure out what is going on.

ViewFlipper Issues....

I have made an attempt to deal with the flipping ViewFlipper bug...

java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Receiver not registered: android.widget.ViewFlipper$1@47c32f50

... which has been plaguing my app since day one (but only on the ad supported version :-?).  In fact many developers have been dealing with this issue.  It seems related to the ViewFlipper and rapid device orientation changes.  My app has a fixed orientation, but notwithstanding, I'm getting it.  This update is an attempt to fix it.

Thanks to Eric Burke for the fix (hopefully!)

Errors and AdMob

I.. like most people pushing out apps for the Android Market, have opted to make a pay version and a "free bee".. that is supported by ads.  I wanted to do this.. mostly so I could say I did it... more than thoughts of making any big bucks off of ads.  Personally.. if I like an app.. I'll just buy it.  I can't stand the idea of my screen real estate being consumed by ads.

My experience with the AdMob API was awesome.  It's a well documented and easy to implement tool set.  You basically drop the ad into your views.. and then configure it on your personal prefs page.  You can even setup "in house ads" (advertise your own stuff).

Each time I put out a new app, I test it via the "ad supported" version, and see how it goes.  In terms of the ads.. I find it rather perplexing that I almost never see more than 2 (really dumb) ads.  One is about "The Best Aging" app.. and the other is about a "Phone Camera Upgrade".  Now I really don't care much about what kind of ads they put on my app.. but can't they come up with more than that?

Moreover.. (and this is a big moreover).. I am noticing that between these two versions of apps (paid and ad supported) .. the free one is the only one that gets errors.  Yes it's true that there are many times more free-bee users that paid.. but ..it is interesting.  It could also be that the only 1.6 users have also been on the free-bee version..  I guess I should make more effort in testing those versions.  My issue there is .. I don't use the emulator anymore...it's so slow and I don't trust it much.

In any case... the latest and greatest version is out there (1.6) due to an upgrade to the AdMob API.. let's hope they found....my problem!!! lol.

New Release... 1.5

The latest release now separates all your Instant "wached it now" movies.. and the physical DVD "Shipped/Returned" into distinct buckets.... One on the DVD tab and Instant... accordingly.  The Queues will most likely need a press on the "Refresh" button to put everything in its rightful place.
